SAHIWAL, Feb 22; Bhangra on Dhol beat, magical steps of Ravi Jhommer and forty five minutes two acts Punjabi Play “Akk WASA” (One Sided) has trilled audience who gathered at Jinnah Hall to celebrate International Mother Language day (21 February) during afternoon yesterday. The 2-Days festivity to celebrate mother language importance ended today which was jointly organized by Punjab Lok Rahs (PLR), Sahiwal Chamber Of Commerce and Industry, and Sahiwal Art Council. Mamona Amjad, focal person of 2 days cultural festival elaborating details said a speech competition among ten public and private colleges was organized yesterday among which 50 students from local colleges including Superior, Concordia, Command, Leading, CFE and Government Post Graduate College participated. At the end rally participant watched Punjabi play. Speech winners were also awarded cash price and honorary certificates. It is learnt Ms. Benish, CFE, Shaiq Ahmed, Concordia and Muhammad Asif of Leading college secured 1st 2nd and 3rd position respectively in speech competition. Punjabi play Ak Wasay (One Sided) was written by Lakht Pasha and directed by Mamona Amjad. The play performed by Lok Rahs’ volunteers. At the function participants passed a unanimous resolution demanding enforcement of Punjabi as medium of instruction at primary level in Punjab. Ihsan ul Haq Idrees, Chairman, District Horticulture Authority while addressing audience reminded Punjabi is the 11th biggest language of world being spoken by more than 130 million people across globe. He said its irony our rulers’ did not enforce Punjabi as medium of instruction in Punjab. Haji Sohail Anjum Ansari, President, SCCI says after passing of 18th amendment its constitutional rights of people of Punjab that their children get education in their mother tongue. This is happening in Sindh and Khyberpakhton Khaw. PML(N) leaders must get this realized as they were ruling both in Punjab and Pakistan”, Sohail Ansari further added. He said local business community who themselves is Punjab supporting “the cause of mother tongue” and we are partner in efforts being done by any one for the promotion of mother tongue. Shafiq Ahmed Chishti, Captain Pakistani Kabadi Team, Mian Atiq Ahmed, Resident Director, SAC also spoke with audience.
