(Poem 1 of 18)
Aa
Mil Yaar Saar Le Meri
Come my friend, survey my condition.
My life is ambushed by sorrow.
In
a dream I was separated from you,
Could not find you.
In a lonely forest I was robbed,
Beseiged by thieves and dacoits.
The
mulla’s and qazi’s point a way.
They peddle religion.
They are thugs, the bird trappers of the world,
They throw their nets everywhere.
Act
according to religion and shara, they say.
They put chains on our feet.
Love does not care about caste and religion.
Love is an enemy of shara.
My
beloved’s country lies across the river,
Surrounded by the waves of greed.
The true master is waiting, he holds the boat.
Why, then, do you delay?
Says
Bulla, you will meet your lord.
Be assured, have courage.
Your beloved is beside you,
Who are you looking for?
You are lost in the bright midday!
Come
my friend.
