Sutinder Singh Noor

Sutinder Singh Noor (b. 1940) is known more for his literary criticism than poems. But his contribution to Punjabi poetic literature is no less. The subtlety with which he conveys his feelings touch the inner chords of the hearts of his readers. So far he has 5 collections of poems to his credit, namely Birkh Nipatre (1970), Kavita di Jalawatni (1990), Sardal de Aar Paar (1995), Maulsari(l999) and NaalNaal Turdian (2002).

Love and Books

There is not difference
between love making
and reading a book.

Some books
we merely glance at
while there is nothing inside
to be of any interest.
Some books
we keep by our pillow-side
for the joy of reading
when we awake suddenly.

Some books
allure us to no end
and we read them
thoroughly.
Again and again we read them
till they simmer down into
our consciousness.
We mark some books
in different colours
and luxuriate at every line.
Some books there are
that inhibit us
to make any mark
on their dainty pages.
