Urs of Hazrat Baba Budhu Shah today

Professor Saeed Ahmad

Annual Urs of Hazrat Baba Budhu Shah Abdal and Sain Ghulam Muhammad is being celebrated today (March 31) at Pleer Sharif near Dadial, Azad Kashmir.

People, from far and near, attend the festival with great enthusiasm. Pleer Sharif is situated in the area named as Chomukh which is located in Mirpur district.

Distance from Mirpur to Dadyal, the main city of Azad Kashmir, is round about 63 km. One drives from Mirpur to Dadyal via Kotli Road and Chakswari-Mirpur Road.

For eight months the tomb of Baba Budhu Shah and Sain Ghulam Muhammad remains under the water of the Dam and just for the four months it appears out of water when the water level of the Dam falls due to less supply of water from the snowy hilly source areas of Kashmir. This tomb, which remains under the water for such a long time, is perhaps the only example on earth. It also seems as strong hard building material is used in the construction of tomb.

At Pleer Sharif Darbar-e-Alia, there are three graves under one ceiling of dome. Hazrat Ghulam Muhammad Sahib, who was the spiritual guide of leading Punjabi Sufi Poet Hazrat Mian Muhammad Bakhsh (1830-1907), the writer of famous Punjabi Sufi Poetry book “Saiful Malook”, is resting in between two graves. On the left side of the grave of Sain Ghulam Muhammad Ji is the grave of his mother whereas on the right side of him is the grave of his murshid Hazrat Buduh Shah Abdal.
